Ruapehu is perhaps better known as National Park and the region is best recognised for the world-class ski fields. The National Park region is a volcanic zone and Mt Ruapehu last erupted in spectacular fashion in 1995. For most of us though it is an area of spectacular beauty.
The mountains of Ruapehu, Ngaruahoe, and Tongariro provide the ultimate playground with snow skiing, abseiling, climbing, tramping, caving, white water rafting, and 4×4 driving all making up some of the activities in this region.
The smaller towns nearby offer few possibilities of employment so nearby regions and small cities are the best option for commuters.
